Morning Sedition, We Hardly Knew Ye

Word comes this morning that Air America is cancelling their morning show, "Morning Sedition", featuring Mark Maron and Marc Reilly. It will be replaced by two shows, a solo show by Reilly from 5-7 am and a solo show hosted by Rachel Maddow from 7-9 am.

Maron is out altogether, pending negotiations with Air America for another spot.

It's a shame. Maron, the comedic Mark, was quite good as a foil to Reilly, and proved--better than Al Franken--in my view, that liberal talk shows could actually be FUNNY, something the wingnuts said couldn't be done. Among the many great recurring bits and characters that Maron created, I'll always have the fondest spot for the daily "Liberal Agenda Fax" which arrived like clockwork from Barbra Streisand's headquarters.

Not only did Maron prove that liberals were funny, he also went one better--he proved that we could laugh heartily at ourselves.

Reilly and Maddow are both quite good, so Air America will still have a great morning, it just isn't going to have a comedic bent. I'm looking forward to Maddow in particular. Her two-week replacement run of the vacationing Al Franken was among the best radio I've heard on Air America.

Things change. But this change is not without some pain, especially since large parts of the US (hello Indianapolis) still can't get Air America via broadcast.

Those who never got to hear "Morning Sedition" have missed something special.

Comments:
I'm not a liberal, more of a libertarian, but the online broadcasts I've heard of Morning Sedition from Air America are funny as hell. I've been a Mark Maron fan for some time now after becoming acquainted with him via Late Show with David Letterman appearances. The fact that Indy has a dirth of liberal media voices is an understatement, try being a libertarian in this city! Pissing off Republicans AND Liberals takes talent!

Its a shame they dropped him like that, maybe there are some internal politics going on we don't know about. I hope he lands on his feet somewhere on their schedule, he is a sharp guy and even though he couches his analysis in humor, he is one of the few voices on Air America that non-liberals can enjoy on their schedule.
